Senior Landscape Architect

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Landscape Architect leads landscape design projects of all types such as public realm plazas, parks, hospitality, commercial, industrial, educational and residential complexes, master planning and natural sites such as cultural, sustainable or botanical projects. The Senior Landscape Architect acts as “Project Leader” and is responsible for interacting with a multi-disciplinary project team to deliver a number of landscape projects under the direct guidance of senior staff. In the capacity of Project Leader, the Senior Landscape Architect acts as the key coordination point with clients, consultants and contractors, and is required to attend meetings, visit project sites and assist in overseeing construction works as required.

• Manages multiple small to medium size landscape design projects successfully from concept to construction, coordinating all stages and all aspects of a project from conceptual and schematic design through detailed and technical design and production, tender documents and contract administration.

• Organises day-to-day design, production, documentation works and coordinates the contract administration of the projects to ensure successful completion of projects in accordance with the project contract, brief, timelines and budget.

• Manages multidisciplinary project teams of Landscape Architects, Architects, CAD technicians, Engineers and specialist support teams to ensure deliverables are completed in accordance with technical and contractual terms of the project contract and to the client’s satisfaction.

• Interacts and coordinates with client, stakeholders, consultants and contractors; prepares reports and presentations and attends meetings as necessary.

• Manages the internal project drawing and documentation and administration in co- ordination with other team leaders such as CAD Manager and in accordance with company design and quality standards, policies and procedures.

• Responsible for ensuring all QA/QC procedures are followed, all checks are undertaken, and all required approvals are obtained during design development and drawing and documentation production prior to deliverables being released for submission to clients.

• May be required to assist with post-tender contract administration stage, coordinating with contractors and clients’ representatives, carrying out site visits and construction inspections if required.

JOB COMPETENCIES

• Ability to apply professional knowledge and experience to lead landscape design projects of varying levels of complexity under the guidance of senior staff and with a minimum level of supervision; ability to lead multiple (4+) concurrent design projects of small to medium degree of complexity, size & value.

• Ability to use professional knowledge and experience combined with artistic and creative abilities to lead project architects and designers to create functional, sustainable and manageable landscapes that are in line with company’s creative direction and style and reflect the requirements and expectations of clients.

• Good understanding of landscape and other related design disciplines, including architecture, engineering and construction; ability to review project work performed by other engineers/disciplines including computations, quantities, costs, the accuracy of specifications, completeness, constructability.

• Good technical communication & reporting skills including reading, writing and interpretation of technical drawings and documentation, specifications, reports, proposals, contracts and tender documents.

• Ability to effectively lead a number of small to medium size landscape design projects; lead a multi-disciplinary project team; coordinate and guide project team’s work; lead the completion of the assigned projects through effective self-discipline and task prioritization and effective day-to-day management of resources, time, cost, quality, deliverables and deadlines; ability to drive the execution of projects, and facilitate day-to-day problem- solving, while developing more advanced project management skills including time management, cost management, change management, risk management, stakeholder management and negotiation skills.

• Ability to interact and coordinate with client representatives and contractors during the construction phase as required and carry out site visits as necessary to inspect construction works to ensure construction is executed in accordance with design, technical and quality specifications.

• Computer & IT skills including CAD, Revit and BIM, Sketch-Up, Lumion; adept at Adobe Creative Suite including Indesign & Photoshop; MS Office and familiarity with latest design tools and technologies

• Good working knowledge of horticulture and environmental & life sciences, as well as materials, equipment, technologies and workmanship relevant to landscape construction projects; staying abreast of latest related developments as they relate to landscape projects.

• Ability to remain highly client-focused and responsive in all client interactions, maintain highly collaborative client relationship, provide a positive client experience and promote Company’s corporate image and brand.

• Ability to create design strategies that will benefit the project from 3 perspectives: User, Environment, Developer.

• Understanding the niche of culture and heritage within landscape, linked to education as experiential design and art as a strategy.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

• Bachelors’ in Landscape Architecture / Architecture

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION / CHARTERSHIP

• Chartered status with Landscape Institute or equivalent (preferred)

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 7 years’ of relevant work experience on sizeable design projects.

• Experience in using BIM related technologies (such as REVIT) in landscape architecture would be a significant advantage
